BUILDING THE man OF GOD
Seeking the Seven Thousand
In Building the Child of God we were encouraged to recognize our condition, our position, and our answer in God. We then endeavored to begin putting off the things of the flesh, remove the hindrances to our walking with God, recognize the enemy and our calling, and come to spiritual warfare. That walk does not end there, but the child must continue growing to an adult, and prepare to live a fruitful life in the spiritual, pleasing unto God. To be fruitful our walk must be supplemented by continued putting off of the flesh, growing in recognition and spiritual understanding of God’s will and plan, putting on the spiritual things that are pleasing to Him, and truly knowing God. This is spoken of to the saints at Colosse;
Colossians 1:9, 10 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
There is a progression then listed in Colossians 3; from mortifying the flesh and sin in verse 5, to putting off the wicked emotions and the old man in verses 8 and 9, then putting on the new man after the image of Him that created in verse 10, putting on the fruit of the Spirit in verses 12 and 13, to putting on charity, the love of God, in verse 14, and allowing God to rule in our hearts in verses 15 through 17; this is ultimately putting on the Lord Jesus Christ. This is the continuing path of building the man of God, which is only possible through humbly, obediently, hearing God and doing His commands as He equips and enables us. Our first step is in finding and fleeing to Him as our strength and refuge, that He may enable us to overcome in this walk. Faith, hope, and charity are abiding, but will only be found in Him; begin to seek refuge in God.
